Redding’s First Condo Conversion Project Appeals Water Connection Fees
On Tuesday, July 10, 2007 Affordable Housing Investments, LLC (AHI) heads back to the planning commission to appeal water connection fees charged by the City of Redding. AHI was granted approval to convert a 24 unit apartment complex located at 3220 C Street to condominiums on June 13, 2006. AHI agreed to install individual water meters for each unit under the pretense that water connection fees would not be charged. However, once AHI went through the building permit process and received the total amount of money to be paid before the building permit would be issued, it totaled almost $160,000 due to water connection fees being assessed. “My mistake was that I did not get the decision in writing. The gentleman who agreed to waive the water connection fees in the water utility department is no longer there, and nobody in the development department is going to stick their neck out on the line to back me up.” states managing member Monica Villasenor. |
